Protests will take place in at least 10 countries, for the International
Day of Solidarity - Free East Timor! Freedom in
Indonesia!
It is a crucial time for people in Australia to show their solidarity.
Militias, backed by the military, are murdering independence supporters in
East Timor. The regime is also looking to crack down on the leaders of the
democracy movement in Indonesia, especially the Peoples Democratic Party
(PRD). The Australian government continues to arm and train the Indonesian
military, and to recognise East Timor as part of Indonesia.
This is all disgusting, but also points to the shaky grip of the Indonesian
regime. Our solidarity is essential in insuring that that grip falls - that
East Timor can finally be free, that Indonesia can win democracy, that the
Australian government end its complicity in the horrors of East Timor and
Indonesia.
