SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR EAST TIMORESE ASYLUM SEEKERS AS HOWARD GOVERNMENT
RESUMES COURT ACTION TO DEPORT THEM

Last September a Melbourne Federal Court judge decided in favour of an East
Timorese refugee (Kon Tji Lay) seeking permanent residency in Australia. The
Court found that there was no evidence to support the Government's assertion
that Portugal would offer Timorese "effective protection".

The Government is to appeal this decision before the Full Federal Court on
Monday 24 May. It maintains that East Timorese people are effectively dual
nationals of Indonesia and Portugal. If it succeeds in its appeal, the
Government could commence action to deport up to 1,650 East Timorese Asylum
Seekers from Australia to Portugal.

Be there in support of Kon Tji Lay and all East Timorese Asylum Seekers.

FEDERAL COURT, CNR WILLIAM & LATROBE STS, MELBOURNE
9:30AM MONDAY 24 MAY

Court case commences 10:00am.
