This week organise for the political protest rally against unfair work laws
12.30 pm thursday June 3 Parliament House steps Adelaide, with Jennie
George ACTU President.
Olsen's and Armitages"s controversial Workplace Relations Bill passed
through the SA House of Assembly with the support of the National Party and
Liberal independents in the South East. The Bill now goes before the
Legislative Council. Opposition to the Bill to be thrown out is growing.
The Bill reduces take home pay, reduces job security, leads to working
longer hours, exploitative agreements and makes it more difficult for
unions to organise without creating extra jobs.
At the same time Peter Reith is back with a similar package of National
Industrial Relations second wave attack on workers. This Rally will be
organising to defeat both the State and the National unfair work laws.
There is general dissatisfaction with the Olsen Government, now made worse
with the Budget tax hikes and the planned GST next year. It is intolerable
that there is now this combined attack on the battlers!
Already there is broad cross section of community groups and academics
working with SA unions to defeat the Bill and to point out the disastrous
social impact onto SA.
The UTLC is distributing a very popular card Did You Have A Good Weekend?
featuring the Premier waterskiing at the same time as warning people of
the threat to family life and working standards. The campaign will continue
as it is necessary to organise amongst many workers in many occupations. It
is important for this force to be able to make a big difference politically
across the board.
