I'm wondering how the GST-- as it is currently formulated-- will affect
community groups.
I think of "my" group, Bear in Mind. It's a self-advocacy and community
education group, focusing on issues for people with acquired brain injury.
And, at the moment, it's entirely self-supporting-- we get the $ for our
rent, bills and expenses from speakers fees, publications sales, other
sales and fundraising.
Obviously, some of our bills will go up. And I'm wondering whether we will
need to *collect* GST for our services and the things we sell.
I think charities have been exempted from paying/collecting GST-- I'm not
exactly sure of the current proposal, tho.
And I believe tax exempt incorporated organisations may *not* be exempt in
the same way??
Does anyone have any more info?
