Hearings in the case of Thorne versus Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE
recommence at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal on
Monday 21 June.
Alison Thorne, a active grass roots union leader retrenched in 1997 during
the middle of a bitter industrial dispute and replaced with sessional
teachers, is alleging discrimination in the grounds of lawful industrial
activity.
The case, which commenced on 17 May, is being heard before Commission Fran
Millane.
Supporters are invited to attend the Tribunal to witness the testimony of
Institute management.
Hearings will take place:
Monday 21 June - Friday 25 June
10 am - 4 pm
VCAAT,
6th floor, 55 King Street
Melbourne
Maria Dawson, a former VCE student at NMIT, who attended the first part of
the hearing says "witnessing the hearing live is more exciting than
anything I've seen on TV"!
Support this case which has the potential to set important precedents for
all union activists.
