DEBATE ON THE ROLE OF THE DEMOCRATS
A reminder about the upcoming debate this Thursday on the role of the
Democrats.
The Australian Democrats like to promote themselves as the progressive,
environmentally-friendly alternative to the major parties, using their
numbers in parliament to "keep the bastards" (meaning Labor and Liberal)
"honest". But how real is this?
Two of the Liberals' biggest attacks on the livelihoods of ordinary people,
the Workplace Relations Act and the GST, have been put through parliament
with the assistance of the Democrats - where's the opposition here? And now
the Democrats have helped the Liberals pass their latest environmental
legislation. What do the Democrats really stand for? Join us for a debate
and discusion:
THE REAL OPPOSITION?
ARE THE DEMOCRATS ANY DIFFERENT?

Marc Newman (Socialist Alternative)
