Marxism for the new Millennium, the largest annual public socialist
conference in Australia, will be held this year in Melbourne.
It will begin on Friday night, August 27, and continue through to Sunday
afternoon, August 29, at Trades Hall.
There will be more than 30 talks and forums, including:
JACK MUNDEY, legendary leader of the NSW BLF, talking on "Green Bans, Red
Union" at 7pm on Saturday. Jack will also be part of a panel discussing
rebuilding fighting unions at 11.45am on Sunday.
MICHELE O'NEIL (assistant sec. TCFUA, Vic) and ELLEN KLEIMAKER (women's
officer, Vic Trades Hall) on "Women under attack: it's time to get angry
again".
ANDREW SCOTT (AMWU, Vic), ANDREW ROWE (Mayor of Moreland) and ALISON
STEWART (editor, Socialist Worker) on "Where is Labor going?"
ANDREW MILNER (associate professor, Monash Uni) and DAVID GLANZ (Socialist
Worker) on "Is Marxism relevant today?"
MONICA MORGAN (Yorta Yorta people) on "Black resistance, yesterday, today
and tomorrow".
The weekend will open with a major public meeting on the Friday night:
Globalisation and class struggle: Who will rule the 21st century?
Speakers will include: CRAIG JOHNSTON (assistant sec. AMWU, Vic), MIKE
SALVARIS (Swinburne Uni) and LUKE DEER (Socialist Worker).
