On July 26th 1953, the attack on the Moncada barracks ignited the Cuban
revolution. This event is now celebrated around the world. Meanwhile, Cuba
is still under attack from terrorism and the inhuman and illegal US
blockade. The blockade is almost universally condemned, including in the
UN. In Sydney, Moncada is to be celebrated at an event organised by
Australia Cuba Frienship Society - Sydney, Amigos de Cuba and Committe in
Soladarity with Cuba - Western Suburbs and sponsored by the CFMEU and
Havana Club Rum. This will be held on Saturday July 24th at Villawood
Senior Citizens Centre, Villawood Rd., Villawood (next to the railway
station).
The Event, starting at 6pm, features musicians, speakers including the
Cuban Consul, folkloric performances, DJ and hot salsa band. Food and
drinks are available. Entry $5. Children under 12 free. Also celebrating
"Cuba Today and Tomorrow - 40 Years of Revolution and Still Going Strong",
a photographic exhibition of images of Cuban life opens on Sunday 1st
August at 6pm at the Green Iguana Cafe, 6 King St., Newtown. Photos will be
on sale and all proceeds from both of these events go towards social
projects in Cuba.
