Dear Friends
Coming up the New International Bookshop has events on self-publishing,
Marx and money and John Lennon. Join us to hear authors speak about their
work and to contribute your ideas about issues of concern to the left.
This week we have:
Wendy Lowenstein SELF-PUBLISHING WITHOUT PAIN
12-2:00 Wednesday 21 July
Have your lunch and listen to Wendy tell you how to publish your own works
- and survive the experience. Her books include Weevils in the flour, The
Immigrants (with Morag Loh), Weevils at work, and the recently revised
Under the hook.
Anitra Nelson MARX AND MONEY
2:00 Sunday 25 July
Anitra will talk about her new book, Marx's concept of money: the god of
commodities. Marx has a unique concept of money, which should be explored
if we are to move towards a humane and sustainable society. Anitra agrees
with Marx that "Real revolution requires dethroning money and overturning
the state". Anitra is based at RMIT University.
AND NEXT WEEK ...
Anthony Elliott THE MOURNING OF JOHN LENNON
2:00 Sunday 1 August
Anthony will be talking about popular culture and celebrity, central themes
of his most recent book, The mourning of John Lennon. Anthony has
previously published, among others, Subject to ourselves, and he edited
Freud 2000.
