Dear Sir / Madam
Below is information about an environmental campaign which is happening out
my way (Cranbourne).
Please circulate to all of your contacts. Thank you.
RATWISE
Ratwise are a group of individuals living in the Hampton Park, Lyndhurst
and Cranbourne Areas. They are deeply concerned about the ongoing use of a
toxic dump situated in the Lyndhurst area.
DID YOU KNOW?
That we have a toxic wastedump in our backyard? It was given approval by
the (then) Cranbourne Shire Council in 1989 to take putrescible waste
(household rubbish) and in 1991, this same council gave approval for the
landfill to take twenty-five percent prescribed (toxic) waste.
Tullamarine and Lyndhurst are the only two such facilities in Victoria and
with Tullamarine almost full, the government may turn Lyndhurst into the
main replacement toxic dump.
OUR GROUP
We are local residents who have come together through fears that the toxic
waste level at Lyndhurst could increase unless our community gets a message
out there that we will not let this happen. How can you assist?
- Sign our petition or even take one with you to get more
signatures
- Write to one of the following people to let them know that the
people from this area strongly object to the toxic waste dump
in our backyard. Jeff Kennett, Marie Tehan, Steve Bracks or
Cheryl Garbutt all care of State Parliament House, Melbourne, Vic
, 3000
- Do you have any skills that you could share with us? All offers
will be gratefully received. Things like legal advice, computer or
Internet skills, scientific or environmental knowledge. Or if you
would like to join our group and learn more about the toxic waste
tip, we would make you very welcome.
OUR AIMS
To ensure that the level of toxic waste at the Lyndhurst landfill does not
increase from the current twenty-five percent level that it is licenced to
take and to push to have toxic waste phased out at the landfill over the
next five years.
DID YOU KNOW?
That there was a prescribed waste spillage at the Lyndhurst landfill last
Friday, 26th March, 1999 around 10:00 am. The EPA was called and we
beleive that this spillage was concealed by burying same under rock.
If you would like to contact us, you may call Danny on (03) 9705 4444 or
Robyn on (03) 5996 7036. We meet on a weekly basis and once a month, we
hope to have a public meeting.
Thank you.
Sincerely
John L. WICKHAM
