The Militant Socialist Organisation (Melbourne branch) has nominated
Stephen Jolly to stand in the upcoming Victorian State Election for the
Labor-held seat of Richmond. The seat covers Richmond, Burnley, Abbotsford,
Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Brunswick East. It is held with a
17% majority by Labor's Demetri Dollis.
MSO (and Jolly) have been active in campaigns in the constituency since
1992: Richmond Secondary College campaign, CAFE (the campaign opposing the
extension and widening of Alexandra Parade), the ADC lockout in Clifton
Hill, and the current Community Campaign for Heroin Reform.
While we will run a serious and hardworking campaign, our main aim is to
offer a socialist alternative to the economic rationalism of the major
parties.
Richmond has been a Labor seat (apart from a brief period in the 1950s).
The choice for the electorate is what type of labour-orientated
representative do they want: A largely absent Demetri Dollis or a class
fighter like Jolly who has a long history of fighting for people's rights.
The election material will be out soon and copies can be ordered by sending
