United front Heroin Rally / Vigil

Please email this on and run it through list servers etc!!!

On Saturday the 28th of August at 1pm at St Pauls Cathedral (corner of
Flinders St and Swanston St, City), the Community Campaign for Heroin
Reform (CCHR) will hold a mass rally and then march on Parliament to hold
an extended vigil there to mourn the preventable and senseless deaths of
over 190 Victorians to heroin this year.

This rally is a united front event and CCHR, who has worked tirelessly over
the past 4 months on this issue, would like to see as many groups and
organizations participate on the day as possible.

An estimated 450 Victorian users will die a heroin related overdose whilst
Jeff Kennett awaits the results of the 18m NSW trial of safe injecting
facilities.

There has not been a single death in a Swiss safe injecting facility since
the first was established there in Bern in 1986. Safe injecting facilities
save lives.

At the moment, heroin is one of the main issues on the Australian political
agenda.

Victoria needs safe injecting facilities. Come to the rally / vigil on Sat
28th of August and lend your voice to those already demanding the trial of
safe injecting facilities in Victoria.

This rally / vigil is expected to be the largest rally in support of drug
law reform so far this year, and will be used to send a loud and clear
message to our politicians that something MUST be done to prevent further
deaths in the future.

With comradely regards,

Karl Rapp
CCHR
