The Progressive Labour Party proudly announces the candidature in the seat
of Northcote in the State Elections on 18 September. Candidate Susanna
Duffy, life long activist, is standing as an independent endorsed by the
PLP. She understands that the people of Northcote would not support the
Coalition parties but urges that a message be sent to the Labour Party.

"I can read the news too," said Duffy referring to her weekly programme on
Community Radio 3CR. "and that would make me eligible to stand for the ALP
but we actually have policies in the Progressive Labour Party and we don't
want to tax footy tipping."

The PLP is totally opposed to the "self-governing schools" and massive
subsidies to private colleges. Class sizes must be lowered with the
immediate employment of permanent teachers. Susanna and the PLP oppose the
attacks on our health system, our hospital sell-offs, destruction of
community health centres and legal centres and the privatisation of our
former public transport.

"A vote for the Labor Party is not a vote for the alternative." said Duffy,
" most of the corporisation and privatisation in schools, health and
transport was initiated by the ALP."

Duffy challenges the sitting member and Jeff Kennett to take a trip on the
city-link transurban tram service up High Street and meet the electorate.

The Greens and the Australian Women's Party also endorse Susanna's nomination.
