We need your help and donations!!!

We have just launched our 'Accessing Your Future Program', which is a
program established to help people who have been in the psychiatric
system to be able to pursue further education from TAFE to University.

What we need are people and any organisations outthere to donate
university and TAFE textbooks and books on any subject or course,
computers in any condition, stationery (folders, notepads, etc) and
course materials and anything else that students could make use of.

We will then set up and educational library with your donations, where
we will give or lend for FREE: books, computers etc to working class
people who have been in the mental health system to help them
financially afford to go onto or continue their studies.

We also as part of our program have set up a Scholarship Fund. We hope
to from next year begin offering scholarships to help people cover their
educational expenses (eg. books, course, materials, stationery, etc).
If you are able to financially donate to our Scholarship Fund your money
will go completely and directly to working class people who have been in
the mental health system to help them have a real positive future.

If you are able to help us please call the National Centre for Human
Rights in Mental Health on (03) 9689 5075.

SOME MORE INFO ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

Our program offers advocacy, advice, support and information to mentally
unwell people to help them to move on with their lives in positive and
meaningful ways through going onto further education.

Many people who have been in the psychiatric system face many barriers
when trying to pursue further education. They face a great deal of
discrimination and prejudice at the hands of educational institutions.
Many universities and TAFES place numerous barriers in the way of
mentally unwell people, to discourage them from going onto further study
or from continuing with their studies.

In addition many mental health workers actively discourage mentally
unwell people from pursuing an education because they think that such
things are beyond them. This simply reflects the ignorance and
prejudices of many mental health workers and their desire to see
mentally unwell people as incompetent or incapable of achieving anyting
meaningful in their lives.

The truth is that people who have been in the mental health system
possess the same unlimited potential and ability as any other person to
succeed in life. All they sometimes need is some support and someone to
have some faith and belief in them.

Our program aims to support and help people realise their potential and
to address the existing barriers through advocacy, education, advice and
support.

One of the real practical barriers that working class people who have
been in the mental health system face
is not being able to afford to go to TAFE or University.

We are thus seeking to address this issue by asking people for
donations.

Warm Regards
