Hi all,
The Australian on-line is taking comments about Australia's role in the
East Timor crisis. The Australian government is currently refusing to take
any responsibility for its role in funding and training the Indonesian
military and the special forces unit Kopassus, whose personnel have emerged
as the leaders of the rampaging militias. Instead, the Australian
government is waiting for an "invitation" from the Indonesian military to
get involved, whilst this same military is "cleansing" East Timor by moving
hundreds of people out of the area (supposedly into West Timor). The fate
of these people is uncertain.
Whilst the Australian government does nothing, hundreds more people are
dying. Every significant Timorese group in Australia has called for
international peacekeeping forces to move into the area immediately. If you
