Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF): Speaking Tour

This meeting is jointly hosted by WILPF, Australian Conservation
Foundation, Friends of the Earth, Women's Network for Mirrar Women and
International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) (Medical
Association for the Prevention of War).
Felicity Hill is Director of the WILPF UN office in New York, active in the
Security Council Working Group, overseeing WILPF's presence at the
Commission on the Status of Women, the Commission on Sustainable
Development, the Commission on Social Development and the Preparatory
Committee of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Felicity is an
Australian returning - on this occasion for next week's International
Women's Conference, "Partnerships for the Next Millennium" in Brisbane
where she is a conference speaker.
Merav Datan is the Program Director for IPPNW. She is also a lawyer and
physicist and a co-author of the book entitled "Security and Survival, the
Case for a Nuclear Weapons Convention".
During the time of the conservative Howard Government over the last few
years, we have lived through a very fast acceleration of Australia's
involvement in the nuclear industry. Felicity Hill and Merav Datan of IPPNW
will address the Melbourne meeting on nuclear issues (eg Nuclear Weapons,
Nuclear Waste, Nuclear Mining, Dumping).
