A reminder about Global Insights 3. Screening this Friday (6:30 pm) Public Lecture Theatre, Old Arts Building, University of Melbourne. Global Insights 3 is a collection of short films about grassroots struggles for democracy, sovereignty, human rights and the environment. Through examples from the Asia-Pacific region (including Australia), it illustrates how governments and huge corporations collude to claim land, exploiting the natural resources and people of the land for profit. The Australian government and Australian-based multinationals are clearly shown to be involved in the military aggression that is often necessary to back up this resource-grabbing. Global Insights draws strongly from grassroots video projects which have sprung up around the world as video production has become cheaper and more accessable. Direct voices from the affected communities and activists are heard. Global Insights is a community-based volunteer production.
