Just a short note to let Left-linkers know that I have been appointed as
the (more or less) full-time Co-ordinator of the New International
Bookshop.
For some months now, the NIB has depended on the sterling efforts of a
small number of dedicated volunteers. They have performed Herculean
feats but the workload of maintaining a shop open seven days a week has
strained our resources to the utmost. The Co-ordinator position is
intended to provide some respite for our volunteers and allow us to
re-establish ourselves as a permanent feature on the Melbourne Left.
With a bit of luck, we will be introducing some new initiatives over the
coming weeks to broaden the service we supply.
But we need to know what you want. Our aim is to make the NIB into a
useful resource for anyone who is trying to change the world. To that
end, we need your input.
If you are in a union, a political organisation or a campaign, come in
to the shop and let us know what books you would like to see on our
shelves. If you have badges, T-shirts or newspaper that you want to
sell, bring them in. We are always on the look-out for volunteers, too �
we would love to have more people involved in the running of the shop.
We're located in the Trades Hall building on the corner of Lygon and
Victoria Sts. Come in and give us your ideas!
