* Looking for free training and access to video production equipment? * Aged between 18 and 26? * Living or working within the electorate of Melbourne Ports? If you answered yes to these questions, then SKA TV is looking for you. SKA TV has recently received funding from the Federal Government's Federation Community Projects Program to conduct video production training with young people who live or work within the Melbourne Ports area. 10 people aged between 18 and 26 will have the opportunity to work with SKA TV in the production of a 52 minute documentary focussing on community concerns and aspirations. The project will create a framework to look at how the Melbourne Ports area has changed over the past one hundred years - how events such as migration, building regulation, and changes to indigenous, workers and women's rights have shaped the community into what it is today. Working with experienced trainers, the group will develop their own objectives and context for the documentary, which must encompass issues of federation, national identity and political change. SKA TV's training programs are distinct from other video production courses in that they focus on a means for widening the communication of issues, rather than being solely about learning a technical skill. We don't just make television about communities, but actively encourage communities to seek exposure through the media to find productive means of being heard.
