MIRIORI FAMILY EXPRESSES DEEP SORROW AND CONDOLANCES FOR LATE FORMER
SOLOMON ISLANDS PRIME MINISTER, MR SOLOMON MAMALONI
Mr Martin Miriori and his family are deeply shocked and saddened by the
sudden news about the untimely death of one of the former great statesmen
and longest serving senior politician in the South Pacific Region, the late
former Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Mr Solomon Mamaloni who passed
away last night (European time) at the Honiara General Hospital.
Mr Miriori said that the news came as a real surprise to the family, and=A0
simply could not believe what friends have told them from Honiara last night.
Late Mr Mamaloni was regarded by many people as one of the most highly
respected senior politicians in the region, who was known for his great
wisdom and understanding, especially when it came to making tough decisions
on some of the very sensitive and key issues facing the region today, Mr
Miriori said.
Mr Miriori said that late Mr Mamaloni was particularly admired for his
stance and personal conviction, especially in taking the courage to defend
human rights for those who have been so unfairly treated and oppressed by
other unfriendly forces in the region today.
My family in particular is greatly indebted to this very compassionate and
courageous former leader for the personal safety of even our own lives, and
the crucial role that Solomon Islanders had generally played under his
capable leadership, while supported by other good governments which were
also so concerned and valued the precious lives of other fellow human beings.
The people of Bougainville should also thank this former great leader, late
Mr Mamaloni for their future who certainly, despite Solomon Islands both
being a poor and small nation, gave his country's very best to champion
their human rights issue in the international arena=94, Mr Miriori said.
Mr Miriori described late Mr Mamaloni as a great loss, not only to his
Nation, but also to regional politics.
Mr Miriori concluded that late Mr Mamaloni will certainly continue to be
remembered for his outstanding work in many more years to come, while on
the contrary he will be greatly missed by his beloved family, friends and
relatives, and by all men and women of peace and goodwill in the region.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE !
