As you know, WEL is working to have tampons and sanitary products exempted from the GST. We are pursuing a number of lines of investigation, including obatining advice on whether the current decision can be challenged under taxation and constitutional law. It does not look possible to take a complaint under the Sex Discrimination Act for two reasons - taxation legislation is exempted from the Act, and the new legislation could over-ride the older SDA - however we continue to look into this too. What we need now is some hard evidence in the form of LETTERS FROM PARTIES OR INDIVIDUAL POLITICIANS that you would have received in response to your letters to them. THIS IS URGENT - to start pushing again on Monday [and throughout next week] we need to know exactly what politicians have been saying to their constitutents. COULD YOU PLEASE EMAIL OR FAX any letters you have received to: email - [EMAIL PROTECTED] fax - 02 6230 2181 [home over the weekend - also the line I use for email, so keep trying] or 02 6247 4669 [the WEL office] PLEASE SEND ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HELP BUILD THE PICTURE - even if you don't think it is relevant, it might be when it is put together with other letters. And thank you all for your energy and passion to get fairness for women.
