THE NETACTIVIST - ONLINE PROTEST
http://www.go.to/netactivist

The Netactivist is a new homepage in English and Danish, made for people
who want to make a difference.

Activism on the Internet can never replace demonstrations, blockades,
public meetings, happenings, working in organizations and so on - but it
can be a supplement. The idea behind this site is quite like the one
organisations like Amnesty International have used for many years: to try
an place pressure on the power holders by sending loads of letters from all
over the world. So email one person send will just be one among many and
in itself it will have little importance - but it will be part of something
bigger, and that makes it important!

We start up with two "Freedom for" campaigns:

Mumia Abu-Jamal is an afro-american journalist and civil rights activist.
He is wrongfully convicted of the murder of the white police officer Daniel
Faulkner.

Mumia's innocence has been proven - several times and with a number of
justifications. The Defence has put forward over 80 different evidences for
Mumia - all of which in a just court of law would have lead to acquittal.
But Mumia Abu Jamal was sentenced to death and has been sitting on death
row in Pennsylvania (US) since 1982 - in over 17 years.

Leonard Peltier is a Native American serving two consecutive life sentences
in a federal penitentiary, even though there is no credible evidence that
he is guilty of anything. But the FBI is guilty of fabricating evidence and
threatening witnesses under the trial. In December 1995, US prosecutor Lynn
Crooks admitted that no evidence exists against Peltier. He further stated
that he government never really accused him of murder and that if Peltier
were retried, the government
could not reconvict.

And finally a protest campaign for Elian Gonzales return to his father on Cuba:
Elian Gonzales is a six-year-old boy, who has been caught in a US foreign
policy power game. His mother fled with him in a boat heading for Miami.
Neither his father nor other family was informed. During the fled his
mother drowned, and American authorities under pressure from exile-Cubans
are now detaining him. His father, grandparents and the Cuban government
demand his return to his father. US federal immigration authorities, INS,
decided that Elin should return, but the verdict was appealed and converted.
