RILEYS RIDGE RED ALERT
This morning two DRNE officers (Sherville) and two police have told the
Rileys Ridge tree sitters they have one hour to leave before police come in
and remove them. THIS IS IT!!!!! RED ALERT RED ALERT
There are people up all tree sits but they will need urgent assistance. I
and Nikki were there yesterday. Was about 9 people there including
Jimmy/Jade. Assume arborists (police tree climbers) will be present.
Police have turned up to confiscate equipment.
Talked to Gary Jungwirth, (minister's political adviser). The minister has
decided to take the departments advice and log what ever they like and
ignore community concern's over logging. The Minister has decided to
accept Jeff Kennett's arrogant logging schedule in the Otways.
Minister has failed to allow any form of consultation and is in breach of
the election to commitment to be consultative about issues. Basically they
are going to see how much political support we can get to protect Rileys
Ridge and other areas in the Otways. Must assume logging will possible in
all domestic supply catchments.
The new Government is showing signs of singing the tune of woodchippers.
THIS IS THE SHOW DOWN BETWEEN US AND THE DNRE. IF WE DON'T BREAK THROUGH
NOW, RILEY'S RIDGE AND THE OTWAYS IS FINISHED. Expect mass arrests.
WHAT TO DO TO HELP RILEYS CREW
Get down to Riley's ASAP. And get others down there. Spread the word, and
be prepared for direct action.
Ring ministers office on 96378910 and demand that loggers and police leave.
Issues to bring up include
1) Tiqer Quoll wild life corridor
2) Scenic quality of Rileys Ridge and the Great Ocean Road
3) RFA will be completely discredited if logging proceeds
