Announcing the News from Nowhere Short Story Competition

An opportunity for writers of short (less than 1500 words) political
fiction, presented by the New International Bookshop & Socialist
Alternative magazine. Winning story to receive $250. Three best stories
to be published in Socialist Alternative.

We are looking for fiction that convinces its reader that change
(broadly defined) is possible, that political alternatives do exist.
Science fiction, dirty realism, satire -- the genre doesn't matter, so
long as your story suggests the world can be other than it is. Avoid
rhetoric, bombast and sloganeering. Make it short. Make it snappy. Make
it political.

Deadline May 1. Entry fee $5 (two entries for $8). Entry forms available
from NIB (send SSAE to PO Box 18, Carlton Sth, Vic 3053) and from
Socialist Alternative (send SSAE to News from Nowhere Short Story
Competition, PO Box 4202 Richmond East, Victoria 3121 ).
