David Suzuki: "Naked Ape to Superspecies"

On Wednesday February 23rd Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki addressed
a Melbourne audience at the Dallas Brooks Hall, as part of the
Transformations Public Lecture Series. The focus of his talk was related
largely to his recent co-authored book - "Naked Ape to Superspecies" and in
his speech he gives a personal perspective on humanity and the global
eco-crisis.
Last week on Earth Matters we heard the first half of David's address where
he talked about the population explosion, hyper consumption and putting the
world's "advances" into perspective. This week we hear the second half of
David's address where he explores are faith in science and the fundamental
flaws of modern economics which fail to encorporate nature.=20
Finally David suggests that the consumers of the world's resources (the
"first" world) should look to the poorer nations to learn the lessons of
survival and sustainability. On a positive note, David ends with his belief
that the seeds of change are everywhere and by first recognising the
severity of the situation change will be inevitable.
