The Victorian Women's Trust proudly presents a Public Lecture by Wendy
McCarthy.
"The Lost Continent?" A Serious reflection on what it means to be
Australian in the 21st Century.
For more than three decades Wendy McCarthy has been at the leading edge of
feminism and public life in Australia. She has broken many glass ceilings
on her professional journey from the classroom to the boardroom. She has
assumed many major leadership roles in both the public and private sector
and has been an active change agent in women's health, education,
broadcasting, conservation and heritage.
In the '70's Wendy worked for the Family Planning Association, lobbied for
child care and abortion law reform, and helped the women's electoral lobby
develop, while bringing up 3 children.
In the 80's, she served as deputy chair of the ABC board at a crucial time
in the organisations history, and was general manager of the Bicentennial
Authority (ABA). In the '90s she has headed the National Trust and
Australian Heritage Commission.
The Public Lecture coincides with the release of Wendy's autobiography
"Don't Fence me In". Copies of the book will be available for sale on the
night.
