"FIGHTING FORTRESS AUSTRALIA: MIGRANTS, REFUGEES & RACISM"

An eye witness from Puckapunjal, and previous worker with the Kosovan
asylum seekers will be amongst the speakers at this meeting which will
examine the face of racism and migration post Hanson. "Fighting Fortress
Australia: Migrants, Refugees & Racism" is set to take place as up to 182
Kosovar Albanians, now classified as "illegal immigrants" and being
threatened with remote detention and deportation.
Other topics covered include the plight of outworkers in Australia, the
perception and treatment of migrants such as the Islamic community, and
strategies for defeating racism.
The speakers include:
> CHRIS PASCOE:
Previous teacher and safe house worker with Kosovar refugees at Puckapunjal.
Currently doing a Masters on the Australian government response to the
Kosova crisis and policies on refugees and temporary visa status.
> RANDA ABDEL-FATTAH:
Past Media Liason Officer for the Islamic Council of Victoria, activist in a
range of Islamic and Arabic organisations.
> PAMELA CURR:
Coordinator of the Fair Wear Campaign (coalition of Community, Church &
Unions to end the exploitation of out workers).
> ARUN PRADHAN:
Candidate for 1998 "Racism No" WA State elections which brought together
Indigenous, migrant and anti-racist activists, Organiser of the North West
Branch of the Democratic Socialist Party.
