WMC EVICTION NOTICE TO
ARABUNNA TRADITIONAL CUSTODIANS
Yesterday the Arabunna Going Home camp at Lake Eyre South was handed an
eviction notice for trespass, from Western Mining Corporation (WMC.). This
is the second time WMC have tried to evict Arabunna people and supporters
from this site and is testament to their committed policy of genocide.
Arabunna elder Uncle Kevin Buzzacott has handed his own eviction notice to
WMC over nine months ago yet the S.A. police have failed to respond. This
is a double standard of so-called lawful process which is being
successfully challenged in the Supreme Court of S.A. with Justice Kelly on
the 8th of June acknowledging there may be some legitimacy to Arabunna
claims of genocide. The case has been adjourned until the High Court makes
a decision on the legitimacy of genocide in Australian law. There is no
where to hide any longer for criminals such as Hugh Morgan, managing
director of WMC, as this case will continue moving through the court system
until justice has been reached.
"WMC and the Federal and State governments need to be charged with theft
and genocide. These people have no jurisdiction under Arabunna law. Their
way of operating is based on land theft and genocide and is part of the
continued war on the indigenous people of this country for the past 212
years." Uncle Kevin Buzzacott declared.
"When will there be a cease fire?"
"Only when sovereignty is recognised can any talk of treaty and full
reconciliation and peace can begin."
This latest attempt to break up the Lake Eyre South camp comes only five
days after the send off of Arabunna elder Uncle Kevin Buzzacott's "Walking
the land for our Ancient right", a historic journey carrying the sacred
peace fire from the shores of Lake Eyre South to the Sydney Olympics
Games. This walk is for peace, freedom and healing of the land and its peoples.
Arabunna people and the Keepers of Lake Eyre will not be intimidated by
WMC's threats and will continue their guardianship of the sacred peace fire
and defend their home at Lake Eyre South. The historic journey for peace of
"Walking the land for our Ancient right" will continue and cannot be
stopped by such attempts of sabotage.
"These people can't put me out. I come from the desert. I was born to do
this job. It's not about power. Its my job to look after my people and my
country. The people in government don't belong in my country - they stole
and killed for that right."
