<<I have been asked to forward this information to Leftlink regarding
people on disability support pensions suffering with the introduction of
the GST. If anyone thinks they can help, please contact Judi Ann at the
email address above - alister>>
Hello Alister,
Would you please be good enough to advise people that we have a campaign
going and would like people to support us - Especially those in receipt of
the DSP.
You may remember the Federal Government stated that no disadvantaged person
would be futher disadvantaged by the GST...W E L L have a guess what. ?
The Federal Government has for the last month been sending out forms to
people who are 60 yrs of age and over who have money invested and will be
inconvenienced by the GST, GRRRRRR.
None of my Members who receive a DSPpension have received any form for
assistance, i phoned the Government who told me that there was no intention
on giving DSPpensioners any assistance as with the GST being introduced next
week they would be better off. !!!!.
Our campaign is to get as many DSPpensioners to make contact with us so that
DSP Australia Inc will advocate for them to receive assistance. Today we
are drawing up a form ourselves to have sent to any DSPpensioner who is
experiencing hardship and we are also gearing into a National Conference so
that we can present to the Government the real facts of where it is all
going wrong.
i am afraid i made contact with the ALP Wayne Swan's Office to receive a
copy of this form that is going around but with no response. ( i am
totally confused as to who do we put in their place at the next election. )
Alister would help us spread this widely so that people will remember what
the Government said they would do but have not. and that they can make
contact with us we will advocate for them who are in receipt of the
DSPpension to ensure that the Government does change its mind and keep their
promise.
We are being kicked out of Ross House, because we can no longer afford to
pay the rent there with the increase with the GST, we unfortunately are one
of those charities, that are kept in the poverty sector as well. We can't
get help from anyone so far. We only need $3,500.00 per year to pay the rent
there, people can claim us on their tax returns, as we are still a
registered charity with the ATO and have the same certificates as the
Brotherhood of St.Lawrence who are about to own the building and we wrote a
letter to them to waive the rent for us so we could continue to do our work,
but they wouldn't do it.
So now we have one charity that is genuinely helping the people and another
which is now a business.
Thanks Alister.
