FAIR WEAR SPELLS IT OUT FOR ONE MONTH AT GALLERY

what: Outworker works on a sewing machine to spell out a message to stop
exploitation, video footage of related international actions/ rallies to
watch and letters to sign
Thursday July 13th Fair Wear will kick off it's one month residency at WEST
SPACE contemporary art space with powerful action by an outworker. During
the opening of political art exhibition ACTION/ RECOLLECTION II, an
outworker will sew a large letter in seven shirts spelling out a clear
message to all NO SWEAT.
Fair Wear calls on all Australian companies working in the textile industry
to sign the Homeworkers Code of Practice as a pledge to stop the
exploitation of homebased workers. From a make shift office in the gallery,
Fair Wear will target NIKE, LOTTO, GEORGE GROSS, STUSSY/ SISTA, ESPRIT,
FILA, RM WILLIAMS and MOOKS for one month.
Fair Wear will be planning other actions from the space and running videos
footage of international actions against large clothing corporations
renowned for their bad labour practices

ACTION/ RECOLLECTION II consists of documentation/ work by local and
international artists and activists including Free Timor Campaign, Maori
activists Tuhoe Embassy Publications, Rainer Ganahl, Kylie Wilkinson,
Bernard Sachs and Fair Wear Campaign. ACTION RECOLLECTION is a three part
project coordinated by Tom Nicholson.
