Resist Corporate Tyranny!
Protest Against the Olympics and their Corporate Sponsors!
To coincide with the upcoming Olympics and S11 rallies, socialist youth
group Resistance is planning to stage a rally and speakout in Western
Sydney. The protest will focus on the Olympics and the role of two major
corporate sponsors, McDonalds and Nike.
The event will involve a variety of groups and viewpoints that will speak
out against the effects of both the Olympics and of their corporate
sponsors. Featured will be speakers from ASIET (Action and Solidarity with
Indonesia and East Timor), CFMEU and other union speakers, and
representatives from the indigenous community. In addition, a number of
activist and community groups will also be involved in building and speaking
out at the rally.
The protest will focus on a number of issues such as �
�The amount of resources being spent on the Olympic games by its corporate
sponsors and the government, at the expense of public welfare and services
that will impact severely on many, especially in Western Sydney.
�The actions of corporations such as Nike, that is renowned for abusing
workers in the third world and for aggressively marketing overpriced goods
in the first world.
�Corporations such as McDonalds that exploit their workers and disregard
environmental and civil concerns.
�Community concerns such as rent increases and restrictions on civil
liberties that will occur during and after the Olympic period.
The action is planned for SEPTEMBER 1 at 3.30pm, and will take place outside
the Nike Warehouse and Auburn McDonalds, located at 125-127 PARRAMATTA
ROAD(near the corner of Silverwater Road). The rally will begin outside the
Nike warehouse and then proceed to McDonalds.
