Eve Stagoll from Amnesty International's refugee team is the latest
confirmed speaker for a public meeting called in defence of refugees and
against the Howard government's scapegoating.

It will be held at Brunswick Town Hall (corner of Sydney Rd and Glenlyon
Rd, tram 19) at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 24.

Other speakers include:

* Stella Kariofyllidis, Mayor of Moreland

* Martin Clutterbuck, Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre

* Kristalo Hrysicos, AEU delegate Northland Secondary College and Brunswick
Socialist Worker branch

* A range of other speakers from refugee and migrant communities have been
invited. The emphasis will be on short, informative speeches and plenty of
time for discussion.

The meeting organisers hope to encourage support for the rally outside
Maribyrnong Detention Centre on August 26 (2pm) and mobilisations against
the World Economic Forum, September 11-13.

For more information ring Michael Reidie on 9305 1266 (bh) or 9480 0171
