-Walk from Newtown Square to Aboriginal Tent Embassy 9.30am Sunday September 3
Walking the Land for Our Ancient Right, for Peace and Healing will arrive
in Sydney tomorrow, Saturday September 2, at Kurnell, the site of the First
Landing.
Walk leader, peacemaker and Arabunna elder Kevin Buzzacott will arrive with
the Sacred Fire for Peace which he has carried for 85 days, over 3000 km,
from the great inland sea, at Lake Eyre, in South Australia's north.
"We have walked in the footsteps of the ancestors and the tracks of the
animals and the flight paths of the birds, we have travelled from the old
lake, crossing desert, sandhills, plains and ranges. We have now crossed
the mountains to the sea" says Kevin.
The Walk will arrive at the Captain Cook Monument at Kurnell on Saturday
August 2, at 2pm and all peoples are invited to welcome the Peace Fire and
the walkers to celebrate the walk reaching its destination.
"All people are invited to welcome us and help us celebrate our arrival --
come and share the special gift we bring to all Australians and to the
world" says Kevin.
While in Sydney the Walk will visit many places including La Perouse,
Redfern, and the Lands Councils of Sydney, including the Metropolitan Lands
Council.
The Walk will make its first visit in Sydney, to the Aboriginal Tent
Embassy in Victoria Park, on Sunday September 3. All people are invited to
assemble at Newtown Square, opposite Newtown Station at 9.30am. The walk
will proceed, with a police escort, up King Street and along City Road to
the Embassy, by 11am. Come and join the Peacewalkers in a celebration of
peace and healing.
