"We have been Walking the Land for our Ancient Right, for Peace and Healing
from Lake Eyre in South Australia, here to Kurnell. We have arrived here in
Kurnell after walking 3060 kilometres over 85 Days.
Kurnell, another name is - we call it 'The Foot' - is where Cook first
landed and put his foot upon our shores, where we say the sickness first
began. And we've been plagued for over 200 years. And with the Games on,
and while the world is watching us, we need to bless, cleanse and fix that
foot up.
We are conducting a healing that has never taken place like this in history.
We have done the right thing, we moving towards peace. A breakthrough this
year 2000 is needed.
Our ancestors, our creators will support us. They are here."

Statement by Kevin Buzzacott, Arabunna Elder and Peacemaker
from Lake Eyre, South Australia
September 5th 2000
We have been Walking the Land for our Ancient Right, for Peace and Healing
from Lake Eyre in South Australia, here to Kurnell. We have arrived here in
Kurnell after walking 3060 kilometres over 85 Days.
We are camped at Kurnell and, with further talks, hope to secure the site
here with National Parks and Wildlife and the Sutherland Shire Council and
our local elders and land councils. We have been escorted in here by police
and we hope to remain here from now to the beginning of the Games, and
during the games, to carry out our healing and peace ceremonies. We picked
this spot because of Cook's first landing; we see this as the place where
the healing needs to begin. During this stage we will be working out from
here to other camps, other organisations, other places on requests from the
people.
We have the rightful authority, the rightful blessing and are welcome to be
here on this land by the local people of this country and we have completed
our journey all the way through the proper way. We have been welcomed
through different countries by the rightful elders. Some of the towns we
have passed through we have been welcomed in by the mayor as well as
escorted in by the police.
Kurnell, another name is - we call it 'The Foot' - is where Cook first
landed and put his foot upon our shores, where we say the sickness first
began. And we've been plagued for over 200 years. And with the Games on,
and while the world is watching us, we need to bless, cleanse and fix that
foot up.
Also we are carrying the peace fire. We've carried the fire with us as well
as water and other sacred objects that are needed to complete our healing.
As soon as we secure the camp here with the National Parks authorities, the
sooner we can begin the healing. There is a bit of a delay while we wait
for the authority.
>From Kurnell there will be other ceremonies as well on request from other
parts of Sydney, from other elders.
We have met with the Kurnell people, I think the meeting was with the
Progress Association and they will be coming in for information sharing.
We'll have an information day with those people.
Also my elders will be arriving to assist me with the ceremonies. And we
are calling - we want to put out a mayday for our people, for all our
people out there to come out and join us to contribute their ceremonies to
begin the full big healing. A healing that has never taken place like this
in history.
We apologise if there is any inconvenience for late arriving, some people
not knowing that we were coming because of a breakdown in communication,
from lack of resources, etc. We are not about offending people. We are
about peace. We are not here to make trouble. We are here to bring healing
and make peace.
We welcome all people to come and join us.
Feel free to ring in on our number 0417 838 906
We have done the right thing, we moving towards peace. A breakthrough this
year 2000 is needed.
Our ancestors, our creators will support us. They are here.
