Liberal leader Denis Napthine said he had written to Premier Steve Bracks urging the government to make a celebratory offer to police. "I think the premier would be well advised to take this advice and host a reception for the police and their families who've done so much for Victoria in the last few days," Dr Napthine told Melbourne radio 3AW. The reception should be held in the grounds of parliament house and should include security officers and staff from Crown Casino, where the forum was held, he said. The state government already has announced it would give police officers an extra day's leave in a mark of thanks. The three-day Forum ended yesterday after thousands of anti-globalisation protesters tried in vain to disrupt the event. Apart from Monday - the opening day of the conference - when about 200 delegates were prevented from entering the casino complex by protesters, delegates had little difficulty entering and leaving the venue despite the close attentions of protesters. All sessions of the conference went ahead as planned. Victoria Police have launched an internal investigation after a female World Economic Forum protester was hit by a police car yesterday. The injured woman, who was in a stable condition at the Alfred Hospital, was in a crowd trying to stop the car leaving the forum at Crown Casino shortly before 5.30pm (AEDT). -- Leftlink - Australia's Broad Left Mailing List mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archived at http://www.cat.org.au/lists/leftlink/ Sponsored by Melbourne's New International Bookshop Subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=subscribe%20leftlink Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20leftlink
