Truth about govt role in waterfront dispute closer http://www.theage.com.au/breaking/0010/11/A43766-2000Oct11.shtml Source: AAP|Published: Wednesday October 11, 7:59 AM The truth about the government's role in the bitter 1998 waterfront dispute is a step closer to being revealed following a Federal Court ruling. Opposition finance spokesman Lindsay Tanner said a full bench of the court yesterday threw out Workplace Relations Minister Peter Reith's appeal against an earlier decision to deny Freedom of Information access to secret documents. "For almost three years, I have been campaigning for Peter Reith to release the secret taxpayer-funded consultancy reports which formed the basis of his attempt to sack thousands of waterfront workers," Mr Tanner said in a statement. "My rights under the Freedom of Information Act are now being determined by the Federal Court. "(Yesterday), the full bench of the court threw out Mr Reith's appeal against an earlier decision of Justice Marshall to allow my case to proceed." Mr Tanner said Mr Reith's attempts to hide the truth about the waterfront conspiracy were gradually falling apart. "Eventually, the Australian people will know the whole truth about the government's role in orchestrating one of the most serious industrial disputes in Australia's history," he said. Mr Reith was in political hot water yesterday over another issue, a $50,000 bill run up on his government-issue telecard. -- Leftlink - Australia's Broad Left Mailing List mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archived at http://www.cat.org.au/lists/leftlink/ Sponsored by Melbourne's New International Bookshop Subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=subscribe%20leftlink Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20leftlink
