this thursday november 9th there will be a demonstration held to protest
against a conference being held on welfare reform at melbourne university.
the conference costs $200 to attend and will host such luminaries as brian
mclure (architect of a recent report advocating "mutual obligation" for the
disabled and single parents), jocelyn newman (liberal social security
minister) and representatives from manpower (the strike breakers not the
strippers). needless to say no one who is actually receiving social
security will be speaking about what they want for their future.
the demo will meet at the fitzroy centrelink (johnson street, between
brunswick and nicholson streets) at 11am before marching to the conference.
