The Melbourne Walk for Reconciliation and day of free entertainment at Kings Domain Gardens are to celebrate the achievements of reconciliation so far and to make a statement that reconciliation is the work of all Australians. Additionally, it will be one of the last major public events for the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation which completes its final term on 31 December 2000. When? The People's Walk starts at 8am on Sunday 3 December with a brief ceremony at Flinders Street Station. The last walkers will leave Flinders Street Station at 11am - no person will be permitted to start the Walk after 11am. Where? The walk starts at Flinders Street Station and finishes at Kings Domain Gardens. All walkers will leave Flinders Street Station, head south along St Kilda Road, turn left into Domain Road, left into Dallas Brooks Drive, and then head north into the entertainment area in Kings Domain. The Walk route is just over three kilometres. How? To join the Walk you must register by phoning the Corroboree 2000 Information and Registration Line: 1902 210 001. Calls will be charged at 61cents per minute (incl GST mobiles and public phones extra). Funds raised from call charges go to the new foundation, Reconciliation Australia. To ensure the comfort and safety of all walkers, please start the walk at the allocated time given to you when you register. Large groups can be registered on the same number 1902 210 001 Please meet friends or your group away from the entrance to Flinders Street Station. The Station will be busy and crowded. Town Hall or City Square is the suggested meeting place for groups. Wear good walking shoes, sunscreen if it's sunny and bring wet weather clothing in case of rain. Roller blades, skateboards, and bicycles are NOT permitted. Transport Travel to Flinders Street Station by public transport to start the Walk - it's the only way to get there due to road closures around the city centre.Trains, trams, and buses Additional public transport services will be available on most routes on Sunday 3 December. Walkers are invited to bring a picnic. Food and drinks will be available for sale from stalls in the Kings Domain. The Kings Domain concerts are alcohol free.
