STOP the ABC's destruction
Without independent media, the public will not be informed, governments
and other powerful forces not called to account, on important issues in
our society. First the government cut the ABC's annual budget by 12% and
gagged radio Australia.
Then it stacked the ABC Board with government supporters.
Now the Board and its Managing Director Jonathan Sheir are destroying
the ABC. In eight months they have:
sacked a raft of experienced and talented managers and producers
replaced them with people from commercial media
cut News and Current affairs funds by $8m
moved to commercialise parts of the ABC
intimidated many staff fearful of their jobs
