Militant union leader supports
Socialist Alliance
Militant Victorian trade union leader, Mr Craig Johnston, has publicly
endorsed the formation of the Socialist Alliance, which has united
Australia's radical left around common candidates for the next federal
elections.
Mr Johnston is Victorian State Secretary AMWU and is part of the militant
Workers First leadership that emerged in the Victorian metal unions over the
last few years.
The AMWU was one of the few unions to formally endorse the S11 Alliance's
blockade of the World Economic Forum summit of corporate and government
leaders last September.
"Socialist Alliance is a very exciting development. It offers a real
alternative to the two-party tweedledum tweedledee of capitalism. I hope
that lots of union activists and rank and file workers join the Alliance and
that it develops into a real alternative for the future", said Mr Johnston.
