Dr. Toh Swee-Hin is a Professor in International/Intercultural
Education, Dept. of Educational Policy Studies, University of Alberta,
Canada, and formerly taught at the University of New England, Armidale,
NSW.  Born and raised in Malaysia, an Australian citizen and permanent
resident of Canada, Dr. Toh has been a school teacher, professor,
researcher and advocate in the field of international/intercultural
education, with a major focus on education for peace, justice, and human
rights. For his contributions to peace education in North and South
contexts, especially in the Philippines, he was awarded the UNESCO Prize
for Peace Education for the Year 2000.

He is very active in various networks in promoting
international education and peace education, including UNESCO's Culture
of Peace Program, International Peace Research Association,
International Institute on Peace Education, World Council on Comparative
Education Societies and World Council of Curriculum & Instruction. Most
recently, he contributed to the establishment of the UNESCO-affiliated
Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding in the
Republic of  Korea.
