Weekly protests are continuing in Melbourne against Nike's rotten record on
working conditions for its workers - now up to the 12th week in a row.
Solidarity protests are now starting up across the country too.

Nike - like many multinational textile companies - uses sweatshop labour to
manufacture its shoes. Workers are employed on as little as 10-20c an hour
throughout Asia, and here in Australia, outworkers (homeworkers) are employed
on as little as $2 an hour! When workers in Mexico tried to set up an
independant trade union, troops were sent in to stop their organising.

But activists and workers across the globe continue to fight back. In Melbourne
we have faced the Melbourne City Council's attempt to fine activists $500 for
handing out leaflets, and police arresting, beating, snatching megaphones from
peaceful protestors, as well as charging retreating picketers with besetting
(blocking free access to a building).

This has simply angered those campaigning against Nike, with unions joining our
campaign and hundreds joining the weekly demonstrations.

We will continue our protests against a world where massive exploitation and
repression of workers is completely legal, and yet trying to stop these
atrocities apparently is not.
