IDAAR 2001- 31 August 2001 International Day of Action Against Racism
Dear All
Alliance for International Justice & Equality and Lawyers without Frontiers
expressed their full support to the world wide call to build an
International Day of Action Against Racism & discrimination IDAAR 2001 on
the 31st of August 2001. We are inspired that such an event will take
place to joint our voices to the world's clamour for Equality and Justice.
Suggested Australian demands:
1.- No Conciliation without Justice, Reparation and Compensation
2.- Right to Return and Claim our Lands
3.- Recognition that Sovereignty and Self-determination has never been ceded
4.- End of all forms of Discrimination, Exclusions and Inequalities
5.- End of Mandatory Sentencing
6.- End of Mandatory Detention of Refugees and Asylum Seekers
7- No negotiations without grass roots participation
Recognition and Elimination of the Oppressive Dominance of the "White Culture"
Proposed format:
World wide stay away campaign: no work, no school, no shopping, no play
Education week on Racism, discrimination, inequality, exclusions, bill of
rights and reparation and compensation mechanism. Power over issues
Proposed for Sydney:
1.- Seek permission, endorsement and presence from the elders and
indigenous peoples of the area for a gathering
2.- Gather at Victoria Park in commemorations of The Aboriginal Tent Embassy
Have speakers, forums, films, performers, arts, stalls etc focused on
Racism and Discrimination
3.- Stage at 6PM The Sacred Ceremony for Peace, Healing and Justice for all
peoples and all lands following with a candle lit march to Town Hall and
Circular Q, in homage of all the deaths, imprisonment and survivors of all
forms of oppression and discrimination
