On International Women's Day, 8 March 2001, the Minister for Women's
Affairs, the Hon Sherryl Garbutt MP, announced the establishment of an
advisory committee to examine the portrayal of women in outdoor
advertising. The committee represents the first part of a broader
commitment to examine the portrayal of women in the media and advertising
industries generally. The committee is made up of people with a wide range
of experience in the media and advertising industries who bring their
extensive knowledge to this project.

The advisory committee members are:

Judy Maddigan, Deputy Speaker, Parliament of Victoria (Chair)
Tonya Roberts, broadcaster on ABC Radio (3LO), who has recently completed
research on the portrayal of women's sport;
Christine Barnes, former Managing Director of Whybin TBWA (Melbourne
advertising agency), founder of a women in advertising networking group,
and a board member of the Advertising Federation of Australia;
Phil Treyvaud, advertising managing director and immediate past Victorian
Chair of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Australia;

years experience as a senior prime-time television newsreader, journalist,
