Hey gang,

the time has come to reassess and (hopefully) reinvigorate Melbourne
Indymedia. This is a call out for people who are interested in becoming
involved with the Indymedia collective - the people who maintain the
Indymedia website, and too discuss some potential changes to the Melbourne
Indymedia website.

Melbourne Indymedia is one of the most visited and most well used Indymedia
websites. There is a strong sense of community 'ownership' and
participation in Melbourne Indymedia.

The loose Melbourne Indymedia collective think that the current site has a
few problems though, that need to be rectified:

the site is often overwhelmed by abusive and obscene posts;
by events listings that make it more like a notice board than an
alternative and independent news site;
it doesn't reach as broad an audience as it could;
the site isn't easy to navigate;
good quality stories are quickly 'pushed' off the front page;
the news of current events isn't coherent;
it is difficult to track issues that attract quite a few story posts;
the colour scheme sucks   :-)   ;

We have some ideas on how these problems could be fixed - but we feel that
it is important to involve as many of Melbourne Indymedia's participants as
possible. We also feel that any reinvigoration of the website would be a
good opportunity to also reinvigorate the Indymedia collective.

So if you want to have your say on the future of Melbourne Indymedia, and
wish to get involved in the Indymedia collective, you can;

join the imc-melb email list by filling in this form here -

come to the "Future of Melbourne Indymedia" public meeting, next Sunday (26
August), on the 3rd floor of Ross House (247 Flinders La Melbourne) at 3pm

see you there!
