CHILE: 11 September 1973 11 September 2001
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 13 7 PM
TRADES HALL (annexe room)
Cnr. Victoria St. & Lygon St., Carlton
SOLIDARITY NIGHT
It has been 28 years since the death of President Salvador Allende and
the destruction of democracy in Chile.
Today, after 11 years of so-called democracy, which for many is a
"protected democracy", still regulated by the 1980
Constitution established under the Pinochet dictatorship.
The marginalised, poor and indigenous people of Chile continue their
struggle for social justice in the face of capitalist
globalisation.
A reminder that
The economic rationalist model imposed in Chile in 1974 under the
dictatorship was achieved through repression, torture and
violence. This is how Chile achieved a high economic growth identifiable
only through government figures, ignoring the brutal
reality of life under the dictatorship.
This is the same economic rationalist model that exploits and is unjust
for most of the inhabitants of our planet, a planet being
slowly destroyed by this very model.
We must network and globalise our resistance to these economic models
that impose themselves on all aspects of our life. We
must fight and demand a better future.
The Struggle Continues
Will be speakers, video and news
Everybody welcome
