PRESS RELEASE
from Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Melbourne

JUSTICE BASED ON TRUTH VIGIL

The Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Melbourne is holding a VIGIL on November 1
- 2. This significant gathering is an opportunity to ceremonially
acknowledge the Aboriginal people who were massacred during the
colonisation period in Victoria.

The gathering is intended to be a time for remembering, honouring, healing
and above all an opportunity to present the truth. People will gather at
11.30 pm on November 1 and the Vigil will commence at 12 midnight and
conclude at 7 am on November 2. Every hour candles will be lit to
acknowledge the massacre sites across Victoria and a narrative of each site
will be told.

It is expected that this gathering will add significantly to the continuing
Reconciliation process in Victoria, by bringing forward information in a
way that promotes an honest remembering of this part of our history and by
bringing non-Indigenous and Indigenous peoples together in a unique and
positive commemorative gathering.

The venue is the Aboriginal Advancement League Oval corner St. George's
Road and Watts Street, Thornbury. Entry to the oval will be via Watts Street.

Please bring your own chairs and rugs.
Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available.
