Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Eureka Youth League

Camp Eureka
100 Tarrango Rd, Yarra Junction (mel ref 288 K10)

January 27th, 2002
10am till late

The Eureka Youth League (EYL) was a socialist youth organisation,
founded in December 1941 after the banning of its predecessor the League
of Young Democrats. The EYL flourished for nearly three decades making a
significant contribution to the labour movement until it ended around
1970. The EYL was active in issues such as the vote at 18, daylight
training for apprentices, equal pay for women and girls, and playing
sport on Sundays. It played a strong role in the anti war movement. The
EYL built Camp Eureka on donated land with the assistance of the
Communist Party and sections of the labour movement.

The Camp was constructed at the end of WWII. Thousands of young people
experienced collective life at Camp Eureka, and had loads of fun at the
same time as planning to change the world. Many who were early members
of EYL are now in their 70s or 80s. It's time for a reunion, and what
better place to celebrate than Camp Eureka.
