CHILDREN OF THE CROCODILE, 52 minutes. Written & directed by Marsha
Emerman, Produced by Marsha Emerman and John Moore, Editor: Bill Murphy,
Camera: Sue Roberts & Peter Zakharov, Sound: Bob Phelps. produced with the
assistance of Film Victoria and SBS Independent
Children of the Crocodile explores cultural identity, resistance and
survival through the intimate story of two young Timorese-Australians. The
film follows Elizabeth and Cidalia through two extraordinary years - from
the joy of voting for freedom, through rage at the destruction which
follows and into a new time of hope.
East Timor's independence fulfils their lifetime dream but also brings hard
choices. Should they go back to their homeland? How can they contribute?
Where do their futures lie?
The film tells a story that's personal and universal - about ideals,
commitment,
and the strength of a culture which has given birth to the world's newest
nation.
