Why does Australia fear the world's most helpless and vulnerable citizens?
MWT & Platform 27 dare you to look past the razor wire into the white face
of of Australia's refugee policy. THE WAITING ROOM is hard-hitting
political theatre that aims to debunk the racist myths about refugees and
confront audiences with the reality of existence inside detention centres.
The Waiting Room is a limbo existence where there is no belonging, no
identity and no known future. Through text, multimedia and physical
theatre, this Kafka-esque parable exposes the fundamental xenophobia of
Australia's policies.

A contrast of two aspects of city life. Builders and workers give birth to
the infrastructure of the city. On the other hand young people, whose
transient and frequent use of the city, make it vibrant and lively.

What is Life of the City? Life of the City is a program of artist workshops
with young people, channeling their creative energies into a productive
image making project. This will culminate in a series of large-scale
projections onto city buildings: a powerful cultural event. The theme of
the image creation will be structured around the issues of life of the city
in the process of construction. Life of the City is part of Next Wave's
commitment to young people's creative engagement with public spaces.

SEIZE THE PRESS presented by The Victorian Writers Centre - This round
table forum looks at some of the issues faced by young and would-be
publishers, including those involved in small press, electronic publishing
and alternative publishing areas. Young publishers and editors, established
publishers, a book designer and an agent will participate. Join in this
dynamic discussion, where industry professionals and independent publishers
share their experience and ideas.
Facilitated by Richard Watts (writer & Artistic Director of Express Media),
participants include Antoni Jach (novelist, RMIT teacher of Small Press),
Simmone Howell (writer, publisher with Vandal Press), Ian Syson (editor of
Overland Magazine, publisher with Vulgar Press) Sophie Cunningham (Trades
Publisher, Allan & Unwin) and David Prater (editor of Cordite)

OF FLESH AND STONE - Chalk drawing performances. The pavement in the
interactive city. With chalk drawing, the artists engage public
participation in an ongoing record of the marks that make a city. Artists:
Martin Burns, Selby Ginn, Ry Haskings, Nicole Haverfield, Robert Julian,
Mark Misic, Asim Memishi, Gigi Panopoulos, Sean Samon, Rene' van Kan & Paul
